GRACE NOTES // What revelation does (& doesn’t) tell us about the end

“For in just a little while, the Coming One will come and not delay.” Hebrews 10:37
Often times we avoid reading the book of Revelation because it leaves us with worries and concerns. The unknown can be like that, vague and mysterious. I have spent seasons of my life fearing the End Times, convinced it was going to come and I was going to suffer persecution. The burning question (no pun intended) on all of our minds is - “how is this going down”? We don’t know how this is all going to play out. As much as we want to plan and prepare the fact is we don’t know. Our constant call as Christians is to remain present in the season and day that God has given us. We are instructed not to worry about the future because today’s concerns are enough.
Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need. So don’t worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will bring its own worries. Today’s trouble is enough for today.” Mark 6:33-34
We are called to truly be here, to be present in the work of our day, and present in the community around us. The Bible promises that we will never know when the End will come. Things will get worse before they get better. Tribulation will happen, but our God wins and we will be reunited with Him.
“Look, God dwelling is with humanity, and he will live with them. They will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them and will be their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, because the previous things have passed away.” Revelation 21:3-4
The posture we are called to is present expectation, to steward each day we are given well and not worry about the future. All the while, remembering that this earth is not our home and we were made for more. As Christians we live in the constant tension of the now but not yet. It’s easy to wish this time away, to think that our time here is meaningless since our final reunion with God is promised. There is a reason for everyday and hour that God has given you. You have a purpose and calling on your life, to worship and honor God through the tension. When we are reunited with Him there will be no need for hope and faith because we will be in the undeniable presence of our God. This is the only time where we can worship, and honor God through the discomfort of the unknown.
